John 21: 15-17
15) So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
16) He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
17) He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
One of Susan's favorite charities was Lunch Partners, an organization that provides food and clothing to people in Independence. No matter how slow business was, she donated to them monthly.
If you feel so led, make a donation to Lunch Partners in her honor. She'd be proud.

Goodbye
Psalm 23:1 & 4
1) The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want...
4) Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
After a week-long battle, Mom walked home to her Saviour at 5:40 this evening. Dad, Joseph and I gave her our blessing promising to take care of each other. We were able to hold her hands as she took her last breath.
I sang God Be With You Till We Meet Again, and Dad and Joseph prayed. We all cried - even Mom let a single tear fall from her left eye. Her face looked so peaceful and beautiful in spite of everything.
The words of her Patriarchal Blessing given by Douglas Wright on August 20, 1978 brought us comfort:
I realize Suzie that you do love me and that you are going to serve me and I will be with you throughout every day of your life, and I shall encourage and strengthen you and lift you up at the last day, and when you leave this life I will send mine angels to usher you into my kingdom, and you shall be with me, even with my saints, throughout eternity.

30 Years Today…
I know that July 15, 1981 was one of the happiest days in Susan’s life. On this day she gave birth to her beautiful daughter Jaclyn and never stopped smiling.
Jackie, Susan, and Susanna
While I didn’t know Susan in 1981, I have been with her on the days her grandson and granddaughter were born. The happiness and elation from those two life events spills from her every being and is contagious. You can’t help but smile when you see her dancing with Ben or rocking Susanna.
Susan is the center of her family. Please keep Jack, Joseph, Jackie, Chuck, Ben and Susanna in your thoughts and prayers today and always while we respect their wishes to say goodbye privately.

A Final Prognosis
Mom's stroke broke her entire body (at this point she can only blink) and she will probably go home to Jesus within the next day or so. At this time, we would like to say our goodbyes privately.
We are sincerely grateful for your love, support and prayers - and I know Mom is too. Shortly she will be whole again, worshiping her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Alma 19:57-58
57) Yea, this bringeth about the restoration of those things of which have been spoken by the mouths of the prophets.
58) The soul shall be restored to the body, and the body to the soul; yea, and every limb and joint shall be restored to its body; yea, even a hair of the head shall not be lost, but all things shall be restored to their proper and perfect frame.
Mom, I love you with my whole heart. I will miss you every single day until I see you again, but I know you will be standing with Jesus soon. So in words of Chris Rice:
With your final heartbeat, kiss the world goodbye
Go in peace and laugh on glory's side
Fly to Jesus
Fly to Jesus
Fly to Jesus and live

Bearing her Burdens
Jackie has asked that I provide an update, even though there is little to share.
Susan is still in critical condition. There has been no improvement in her status.
And even though she can't say it, I know that Susan has so much love in her heart for everyone who has come to visit, called, sent an email, or asked for an update. She loves everyone so much and is so grateful for all of you.
Please continue to visit at the hospital. Tell her how much she's impacted your life, and let her know that you are there for her. She wants to hear your voice in song and prayer. Tell her stories. Share a memory about times you spent together. Help lift her spirits and fight through this illness.
Susan would also want you to know that she is so grateful that you all are taking care of Jack, Joseph, Jackie, Chuck, Ben, and Susanna. She can focus on taking care of herself because you all are taking care of her family.
To borrow from Laura Handy: A week ago, Susan was walking in the forefront proclaiming the promises of God to her peers. Today, we are lifting her up in prayer and are willing to bear her burdens for her.
Please bear her burdens. Susan needs us now more than ever.

Thank You
Matthew 26:36-41
36) For I was an hungered, and ye gave me meat; I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink; I was a stranger, and ye took me in; naked, and ye clothed me;
37) I was sick, and ye visited me; I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
38) Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungered, and fed thee; or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
39) When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in; or naked, and clothed thee?
40) Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
41) And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethern, ye have done it unto me.
Thank you for holding up our family right now. We are sincerely grateful.
God is holding my mom right now. We are waiting out the acute phase of this stroke to see how much damage it will actually do. Her condition is critical and she seems to be less responsive.
But it still seems like she can hear us. So, please come and visit. Tell her you love her. Pray with her. Sing to her. When you do, you will actually be serving Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

Helping Susan's Family
Hello Everyone-
This is actually Jackie's friend, Brooke Richards, sending this email. I am trying to organize meals for the family, and once a week housework for both Susan's house and Jackie's house. I have created an online Care Calendar so you can use the following link and log in information to view the calendar and sign up to bring a meal or clean. It's pretty simple to use, when you see a need in red that you wish to fulfill, just click on it and you can sign up for it. It the need is in green someone has already signed up for it.
Here is the link/log in info
www.carecalendar.org/logon/80650
Calendar Id: 80650
Security Code; 2714
We are asking that dinner be provided everyday, for Chuck, Ben and Jack. You can take the meal to Jackie's. Ben is allergic to peanuts, so please NO peanuts :)
Also we are asking for volunteers to go to Jackie's and Susan's once a week for general cleaning and laundry. Vacuuming, dusting, cleaning bathrooms, etc. If you sign up for housework I will contact you with how to get into the houses if Chuck or Jack are not home.
THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH for your help!!! As many of these burden's as we can lift from Jackie's shoulders, the better. Also, Jackie will be sending updates and any other requests for needs most every day so you can all stay informed.
You can pass the calendar link/logon to anyone who would like to help. We have set up the calendar for just one month for now, but I am sure the family will have needs for many months to come. I will send a new email everytime we update that.
Thanks again!

Susan's Stroke
On Saturday morning, Susan was cleaning the porch at home and passed out. She was able to regain consciousness and called Jack, who found her at home unable to communicate. She was taken to Centerpoint Medical Center by ambulance, where she stayed until Sunday evening. They initially thought she was having TIA, or mini strokes. However, after a series of episodes, including loss of movement in her right arm and leg, tingling sensations in her mouth and tongue, and involuntary movements in her limbs, it was determined Susan needed a different care team.
Around 1 a.m. she was transferred to St. Luke's on the Plaza where it was determined that she had a pontine stroke. They anticipate the stroke occurred around 7 p.m. on Sunday evening. This is very serious stroke in a very serious part of the brain, near the brain stem.
The care team at St. Luke's is closely monitoring Susan for brain swelling. She was having a hard time breathing and swallowing and is currently intubated to help control her gag reflexes. Please intercede on her behalf and ask Lord to keep her brain from swelling.
Then we'll begin the long recovery phase and see what will come back for Susan.
She is currently in the Medical ICU at St. Luke's on the Plaza and family welcome visitors at the hospital. Visiting hours are closed from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and again 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Although Susan sometimes seems to be unresponsive, she can hear everything and is listening. Only bring encouragement and positive words into her room. Please talk with her, pray, and sing to her, but use a low voice just in case her head hurts.
And remember to bring strength to Susan - she has been the shoulder that so many have leaned, be there for her now.

Visiting Schedule July 13-17
Susan is currently in the Medical ICU at St. Luke's on the Plaza. For information on how to get to the hospital, see: https://www.saintlukeshealthsystem.org/location/saint-lukes-hospital/visit
To keep Susan surrounded by family and friends who can talk with her and keep her in good spirits, we've created a schedule for visiting hours. It's best if only two people are in the room. There is a waiting room across from the Medical ICU where you can sit if the room is full.
If you know when you will be able to visit and want to indicate this on the schedule, please follow the link below, enter your name, and click the date and time you plan to visit. This will help with the traffic flow and also to help us know that Susan will always have loved ones visiting with her.

Please know that visiting hours are closed from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and again 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. while the doctors are doing rounds. Also keep in mind that Susan needs lots of rest to recover.
